HISTORICAL CONTEXT
The Western Serene Atlantic Hotel in Takoradi, Ghana, a renowned establishment with a rich history, was originally built by Ghana’s first president, Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, in 1962. Over the years, the hotel has been managed by various entities and has undergone renovations to maintain its luxurious standards. In June 2024, it became part of the First Sky Group, a wholly owned Ghanaian entity with interests in hospitality, energy, construction, banking, insurance, commodities, trading and bitumen.
The hotel’s history reflects the evolution of Takoradi as a vibrant coastal city and a significant commercial hub in Ghana. It has witnessed the city’s growth and development over the decades, serving as a symbol of hospitality and progress.

Since its acquisition by the First Sky Group, the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel has undergone a remarkable transformation, encompassing both infrastructure and human resources. The hotel has implemented comprehensive staff training programs, significantly enhancing operational efficiency and service quality. Key infrastructural upgrades include:
– Installation of thatch roofing on the chalet building
– Renovation of interiors in select superior rooms
– Stunning makeover of the Ocean View Restaurant and Ocean View Bar
– Replacement and installation of individual water heaters in 88 rooms of the main block
– Acquisition of a new 500kVA generator to complement the existing power supply

Great overall experience - food, the staff, facilities, etc. You will notice it is the hotel of choice for the many foreigners/ex-patriates that have largely increased in number in recent years following the discovery of oil in Ghana. Lots of travelling businesspeople and corporate workers like me patronize it also, and for good reason!

Never seen such friendly and professional staff. All was good and I enjoyed. Definitely the best hotel in Takoradi, most probably in entire Ghana. Starting with housekeeping until the end of the day. Perfect lounge bar with fast service. Restaurant is very nice with different choices of food. Swimming pools are more than enough for relaxation. Enjoyed one week with pleasure.
